Here’s what new and updated in the Jailbreak App Stores on Rock and Cydia.

Paste A Pastie.org Client
App by Chpwn
Click the image to open in full size.

Paste is a handy tool developed by @Chpwn, creator of Infinidock and InfiniFolders. Basically the application, Paste, allows you to send text/code via Paste using the service Pastie.org. When you open up Paste, your clipboard is automatically pasted and ready to be uploaded to pastie.org or you can clear it and type something else. When you press submit, your paste will be submitted, and then contents of your clipboard will be replaced with the Pastie URL of your psate.

This can be found in Cydia and Rock for free.

Tlert
SMS/MMS Tweak
Click the image to open in full size.

Tlert has recently received several updates and continues to grow and become one of the cleanest SMS add-on available for your jailbroken iDevice. It replaces the intrusive pop-ups, and allows you to take control of your SMS/MMS. It integrates a great quick reply system, and allows you to easily mark messages as read from any screen, even letting you customize the look of notifications. Best of all, there is almost no memory loss and everything runs smoothly.

Tlert is available via Rock for $6.99. I highly suggest checking it out.

Remove Background SBSettings
Toggle Tweak
Click the image to open in full size.

This handly little SBSettings toggle, allows you to remove all background processes in one tap. Simply tap the toggle and it will close all apps currently running in the background. This is great if things start getting a little too sluggish.

You can find this on Cydia and Rock for free.

ultrasn0w
Unlocking App
Click the image to open in full size.

If you missed it, earlier this week ultrasnow was updated which brought improved battery life for phones on standby. This update can be found on the ultrasn0w repo via Cydia or Rock.

MMi Weekly Jailbreak App Store Update: August 9th, 2010

Author Zanzi    Category iPhone     Tags , , , , ,
After some hiatus, the weekly jailbreak app store updates segment is back. I will be covering some new apps that have recently been added to the Cydia and Rock app stores in the past few weeks, some of the best free apps available today, and some of the worst. There is a lot to cover so if I missed something please feel free to add to this. We want to hear the community’s thoughts on these apps. This week I’ll be covering Signal, My3G, MyWi, Cicero, and a few others.

New & Updated Apps:

Signal

Click the image to open in full size.

Recently Paul discussed Signal, a new App available in Cydia, created by planetbeing. Planetbeing is the person behind the Unlock we have at the moment, and with the development of this new app, Signal, provides vital information about what your baseband is doing, which towers it is connecting to, and various data points.

Signal uses your current location, and pinpoints where the nearest cell tower is using a google maps overlay. Your connected tower station is shown as a red dot, as real time signal strength is shown in dBm. Read More…

While this app may not appeal to everyone, the gesture of purchasing this app and supporting planetbeing’s work is what brings it in as one of the most important apps every jailbreaker should have in their collection. Head over to Cydia and purchase Signal for $4.99.

My3G with FaceTime Support
Click the image to open in full size.

If you’ve never heard of My3G, you’ve been living under a rock. My3G has the ability to convince your Apps that they are actually on WiFi rather than 3G. Doing this extends the limits of what you can do while away from WiFi. Things such as FaceTime require WiFi to function, due to the high use of bandwidth for each call. Even apps like YouTube will disable the ability to watch HD movies if you have no WiFi signal. With My3G, you can watch HiDef YouTube videos, use Factime, Skype/Fring and other apps over the 3G network, no questions asked.

You can download My3G via RockApp for only $3.99.

MyWi 4.0

Click the image to open in full size.

Possibly one of the most interesting, useful apps available on a Jailbroken iDevice. From the creators of My3G, comes MyWi. MyWi has been rebuilt from scratch to bring tethering support to iOS 4! MyWi will allow you to create a WiFi HotSpot in a matter of seconds, straight from your iDevice. Essentially your iDevice will become an Access Point for other WiFi enabled devices to connect to, and share the 3G or WiFi connection that the iDevice has. This is great for roadtrips or mobile meetings. Or heck, even a LAN tournament. :)

This app will work with all jailbroken iPhones (including 2G/3G/3GS/4) and iPad on 3.1.2 or later. You can download MyWi via RockApp for $19.99.

More information can be found here.

InfiniFolders & Infinidock

From Xuzz comes InfiniDock and InfiniFolders, now both iOS 4 compatible. InfiniFolders will allow you to overload your folders originally limited to 12 by default on iOS 4. This creates a great way to really organize your apps and manage them efficiently. InfiniFolders is available for $1.99 from Cydia via BigBoss repo

InfiniDock is much the same, in that it allows you to add as many icons to the dock as you’d like, and appears much like the multi-tasking feature on iOS 4. Slide to the left or right to reveal more icons in the dock.

Cicero

Click the image to open in full size.

Cicero is not so much an app, as it is an extension, and a useful one at that. Cicero will allow the user to add and manage search engines directly inside of the Safari browser. Built inside of Cicero is an OpenSearch-compliant search engine manager which makes it incredibly easy to add search engines from the database of search engines provided by Mycroft.

Cicero also manages search suggestions displaying suggested queries as you type for faster results. By tapping on the current engine’s icon, you’ll be able to switch through providers, just like you would in something like firefox.

Cicero is available in Cydia via BigBoss repository for $2.49

Quick Updates:

The following apps have been updated to work with iOS 4. Not much more to say other than that. For the most part, you will probably all have these updates installed already. These are in no particular order. For a full list go here

tlert
iLock
LockInfo

iAds Get a Big Push at 2010 WWDC

Author Zanzi    Category iPhone     Tags , , ,
Click the image to open in full size.

As the live audience in attendance and thousands more across the blogosphere awaited the 8th and final attribute of the new iPhone to be introduced, many – if not most – were surprised by what Steve Jobs saved for last. Thinking the new video chat functionality dubbed "FaceTime" would be the last feature introduced (ultimately, though, it was), Apple’s head honcho took more than a few minutes to plug Apple’s foray into digital advertising.

As it turns out, he did it for the devs.

"Number 8…. iAds," said Jobs, referencing the new mobile advertising platform aimed at helping "our developers earn money." Devs, keep in mind, get 60% of revenue. Not too shabby considering that iAds are estimated to capture nearly half of the entire mobile ad market before 2010 expires. “Apple hosts and sells the ads, so all you have to do is tell us where you want them and make the money."

Apple has only been selling ads for two months and, already, the major advertising players on board include: AT&T, Chanel, GE, Nissan, Citi, Unilever, State Farm, Liberty Mutual, Geico, Campbell’s Sears, JC Penney, Target, Best Buy, DirecTV, TBS, and Disney. "We’ve got advertisers committing $60 million," confessed Jobs.

The interactive, in-app ads will help developers greatly, but as outlined in the keynote, they’re also a good thing for iPhone users. "The worst thing you want as a user," said Jobs, "is to tap on a banner, and be hijacked out of your app into a browser." During the presentation, Jobs showed off a Nissan ad for the car-maker’s new electric car, the "Leaf." Basically, if you want to buy this ride, you have to register for the waiting list through Nissan’s ad on the iPhone.

Although the jury is still out among many iPhone users who don’t know what to make of the new advertising platform yet, iAds will hit for all iOS 4 devices beginning July 1st.
